← InsightsThe prototype that replaced the spec
A thirty-page requirements specification looks thorough, but it's rarely read the same way by everyone. A clickable prototype, on the other hand, cannot be misunderstood. That’s why we build something testable in the very first week of almost every web project.
Decisions are based on what you see
When management, marketing and IT are all clicking through the same prototype, the discussion becomes concrete. Questions that would otherwise emerge late in the project – and become expensive – come up immediately and can be resolved while changes are still cheap to make.
Test with real users early
A prototype can be shown to customers before a single line of production code is written. A few short user tests will often reveal more about navigation, terminology and priorities than weeks of internal workshops.
AI has made prototyping faster
With AI-assisted tools, it’s possible to go from a sketch to a working prototype in hours instead of weeks. This frees up time for what actually determines the outcome: strategy, content and design.
The spec still exists – but it’s written last
Documentation is still needed, but it now describes something that has already been tested and approved. The result is a clearer budget, a more reliable timeline and a website that does what it’s supposed to do.
